Introduction
Happy Father’s Day
We have been studying the Images of Jesus Christ and it’s so interesting that we find a lot of things that Jesus Christ identifies with us as humans. Today is Father’s Day, and the Holy Scripture calls Jesus, The Everlasting Father.

The Word father in the Aramaic term is “abba”. It is a term of affection and intimacy. It is also a term used to address an elderly male figure within the patriarchal system among the Jewish community.

The Hebrew word for father is “av” while the Greek term is “Pater”
Matthew 6:9 says, “In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be Your name.”
We see the relationship between Jesus Christ and His Heavenly Father. Their relationship was impeccable.

The role of the father in the life of the child cannot be overlooked and over emphasized.
1. The father is a progenitor or the source which refers to a father as the begetter of a child. He is the originator. Adam’s source was God because he received his breath from God and was made in the image and likeness of God: Luke 3:38
2. The father gives a child his/her identity: Luke 1:35
3. The father gives affirmation to his child/children: Luke 9:35
4. The father provides for his children: Philippians 4:19

Why is Jesus called The Everlasting Father?
1. This testifies to His Divine nature as The Author of Eternity: Isaiah 57:15; Rev. 1:8
2. Jesus is The Everlasting Father because He is one in nature and essence with the Father, He is the express Image of the Father: John 10:30, 38; John 14:9-10
3. Jesus is The Everlasting Father because once we become saved through Him, we are His and He is ours forever. Nothing is able to separate us from His love: Romans 8:35-39. We are eternally secured in Him. John 10:27-29. No one and nothing can snatch me away from Him, I am eternally secured in the Father.
4. He is a good Father and a good Shepherd: John 19:11
5. He is the Father who gives good gifts to His children: James 1:17

Our Heavenly Father is our source-Ephesians 3:14-15, and He is a good Father, Matthew 7:9-11

The devil tries hard to destroy the relationship between a father and his children because it knows that if a person has a great relationship with their father, that person will be well grounded individual. As a result of this, the devil has caused many father hurts and we have a world filled with people who have been broken because of father hurts. But thank God for the Everlasting Father who shows us compassion and will not hurt His children. Isaiah 49:15; Psalm 91:4
